Diatomaceous Earth for Mineral Support

Composed of the fossilized remains of microscopic seashells called diatoms, this safe, non-chemical alternative to chemical dewormers works by mechanically destroying parasites.

There are many differences in the quality of DE

First you need to make sure that the product is actually food-grade and certified by the FDA. Many companies will simply put "food-grade" on their label even though it is not (much like the word "organic" or "natural"). Customers need to understand where they are buying from and should be buying from a reputable, FDA certified company. There are hundreds of deposits in the US of which only 4 are FDA certified to be food-grade.

Our DE is from fresh water deposits

DE from saltwater is not as effective as those diatoms from freshwater; Their shell is less fragile. Also, diatoms from saltwater contain many more species of diatoms and sediment leading to a less effective product.

Clay and sediments effects on DE

Our DE is analyzed to have less clay and sediment than other food-grade DE which again, makes them less effective. This clay and sediment clog the pores of the diatoms. Clean, open pores are critical to DE working effectively. With that being said, our DE is truly a pure, more effective product.

Diatomaceous Earth

So far so good. My dogs seem to have more energy, are pooping regularly & itching less. It is also keeping the ants out of my house and away from my dogs when I use it on my carpet. It took about two weeks to start working internally, but after 2 weeks of my dogs eating their food with the powder, things are going well. They even gobble down their food with the powder in it & are usually very picky so that is a major plus!

Love it!

I really love this natural way of preventing ticks and fleas - The product alone will not do it though remember you have to bathe your dog regularly

I stopped using this product

This product worked well for killing ticks that attached to my dog but did not repel them and it also gave my dogs a weird yeasty smell. I stopped using the product after a couple months.

Thank you for your review! Please know that DE does NOT repel biting insects. DE works by mechanically cutting their exoskeleton so in order to work, the product must come in contact with the biting insect.

High Hopes

I had high hopes this would naturally get rid of fleas from my 16yo underweight dog who has had bad reactions to chemical topicals (ataxia, seizures) in the past. Flea season arrived, and when my essential oil blend wasn’t driving the fleas away either I researched DE. I looked for it on Wholistic’s site because they are a company and brand I could trust. I found it and ordered a small amount to try for 30 days.

I only used it for 2 weeks, a week past when his vet suggested I NOT give this to him because we don’t know what it does to the intestinal tract especially-if it causes micro tears or other damage.

After half the suggested dosing time-2 weeks-I didn’t see any difference in his overall health or fleas. In fact, he had more fleas and was so uncomfortable. The vet suggested I stop DE and try Advantage Multi, so that is what I did a week afterwards. It took 5 days after application of that to get rid of the fleas…

This may be more beneficial for younger, healthier dogs than my senior, and maybe after 4 vs. 2 weeks there would be a noticeable positive effect. I would say use with caution on seniors with medical issues.

In my research, I did read that you can also sprinkle this in the dog’s coat (use a mask to protect yourself from inhaling the fine powder) and around the house/dog bedding to repel fleas. Then vacuum up after a while. I haven’t tried this yet…

Hello Frankie,

Thank you for your review! Please know DE is safe for dogs when used internally. This ingredient has been used for over 2 decades with millions of safe dosages. As far as fleas, using DE internally WILL NOT HELP this problem. DE must be used externally as the flea must come in contact with the DE. DE works by mechanically cutting the exoskeleton. In turn, they dehydrate and pass. It is best to use DE on their skin and coat along with sprinkling in any areas your dog frequents. Ie dog bed, etc. Please let us know if you have any further questions or concerns.
